Job Description

An established leader in chemical manufacturing is expanding its operations and seeking to strengthen its team. The R&D Chemist in this role will assume ownership of both formulation and process development activities and serve as the primary liaison between research and production functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing process support (approximately 70–80% of time), ensuring smooth scale-up and transition from laboratory-scale formulations to full-scale production environments.
  • Conduct laboratory-based research (approximately 20–30% of time) with an emphasis on organic chemistry, formulating new products and optimizing existing chemistries.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with research scientists, production personnel, engineering, and other stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and troubleshoot technical challenges.
  • Communicate effectively with all parties involved in the manufacturing process, including laboratory technicians, plant operators, fellow chemists, customers, technical management, site engineers, and site leadership.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline is required
  • Minimum of 2–6+ years of hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, with demonstrated involvement in scale-up activities or direct exposure to production processes strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in organic synthesis and formulation chemistry.
  • Prior experience working with pulp and paper industry chemicals , such as strengthening agents, polyamide-epichlorohydrin (PAE) resins, alkenyl succinic anhydride (ASA), alkyl ketene dimer (AKD), and defoamers is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines and functional areas within a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of presenting technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
