About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned and hands-on Lab Manager with deep expertise in clinical genetics and immunochemistry to lead operations in our fast-paced, CLIA-certified, CAP-compliant clinical laboratory. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in startup environments, can lead from the bench, and is ready to build and scale lab operations with minimal oversight.

You will manage day-to-day lab activities, oversee a small and skilled team, and ensure all operations comply with regulatory and quality standards. Your experience running clinical labs, particularly those performing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), is critical to your success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of a CLIA/CAP-compliant clinical laboratory focused on genetics and immunochemistry testing.
  • Supervise and support a team of 6–8 lab personnel, including those performing test requisitioning and bench work.
  • Drive lab readiness including SOP development, method validation, instrumentation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain strict adherence to quality and compliance standards as defined by CLIA and CAP.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership and other stakeholders in a startup environment; strong communication and alignment are key.
  • Ensure operational scalability and efficiency while maintaining a “hands-on” leadership style.
  • Support and troubleshoot lab equipment and workflows to minimize downtime and maximize throughput.
  • Lead with a collaborative, humble, and “head down, get it done” mindset—no micromanaging or egos.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience running clinical laboratories, with at least 5 years under CLIA/CAP regulations.
  • Strong bench experience in genetics, immunochemistry, and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Proven track record in lab operations—preferably in a startup or early-stage environment.
  • Deep understanding of lab workflows, including validation, SOPs, equipment, and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to work independently—no hand-holding. You must "get it" and be ready to execute from day one.
  • Effective team leadership without ego—must be a team player who fosters a positive, drama-free work culture.
