Role OverviewThe Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Cardiovascular Services functions as a vital clinical expert across patient care, education, leadership, consultation, and research. This position is responsible for advancing cardiovascular nursing practice by mentoring staff, refining care pathways, and directly impacting quality, safety, and patient satisfaction metrics. The CNS works autonomously and collaboratively with physicians, nursing teams, and leadership to ensure excellence in cardiovascular care outcomes.
Position SummaryAct as a clinical authority in cardiovascular nursing care across acute and chronic cardiac patient populations
Drive best practices through coaching, education, and hands-on support for clinical nurses and interprofessional team members
Lead quality improvement initiatives, practice guideline implementation, and evidence-based interventions
Serve as a mentor and resource to support the ongoing development of unit competencies and certifications
Facilitate case reviews and interdisciplinary team rounds to ensure optimal patient-centered outcomes
Initiate and guide clinical research projects and process innovations related to cardiac care
Align practice with regulatory standards and national benchmarks for cardiovascular nursing excellence
Education:
Master's Degree in Nursing (Required)
Licensure & Certifications:
Current California Registered Nurse License (Required)
BLS Certification – American Heart Association (Required upon hire)
National Specialty Certification (Must be obtained within 3 years of hire)
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in cardiovascular services or closely related specialization (Required)
In-depth clinical expertise in cardiac interventions, telemetry, heart failure, post-op cardiac surgery, and catheterization recovery
Experience in process improvement, staff development, and patient safety
Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular pharmacology, diagnostics, and therapies
Demonstrated success in multidisciplinary team leadership and collaborative patient management
Strong presentation, teaching, and consultative abilities for both formal and informal clinical education
Focus Area: Cardiovascular Services (Inpatient and Outpatient Cardiology, ICU, Cardiac Telemetry, and Interventional Units)
Leadership Scope: Oversight of cardiac clinical standards, staff development, and quality improvement initiatives
Work Setting: Acute care hospital environment with integrated cardiac care pathways
